Dear Friends,

I can’t believe we only had one month off for the summer – it seems like ages since we last had a market!  August always seems short while it’s happening, but an age in retrospect….I hope you all enjoyed some sort of holiday and are feeling refreshed.

Andrew Riley will be continuing with his excellent Watercolour classes at all our Markets – do come and try it out, Andrew is a great teacher (and yes, I have participated, so I speak from experience, and hope to do the class again if I ever get any respite from my potting addiction!)

We will, as usual, have an excellent variety of food on sale: Lucy will be here with her delicious savouries and soups, Joel and Elca with their famous local Honey, Lanre with his mouth-watering Chilli products and Philip with his home roasted coffee.  Sadly, Louise is not available to sell at the market for a while, but we are delighted to welcome back Vanessa and Marion (Cousins and Crumbs) who will be our regular cake sellers following their debut in July.  I don’t know if it’s going to be too cold for their icecream – I hope not, I had some at the last month and it was really good.!

You’ll be pleased to hear that Jane and her gorgeous silver jewellery will be there, as well as a return from a favourite artist: Jane Young.  Kate Porte and her beautifully curated cards too  -who doesn’t need a spare Birthday Card?  Ruby and Debra will be presenting their cute textiles, knitting and crochet, and Patricia will join with her South American inspired products.  

Jean will present her son’s leather and wooden goods, and Joanna her fragrant candles and diffusers.   And there will be a whole plethora of fun vintage goods this month, from John R, our ‘Outside Man’ to the Eglinton Hill Bird Sanctuary’s wonderfully colourful clothes by way of Sue’s teacups, Priscilla’s books and Anne’s cornucopia of curiosities.  We have two newcomers to welcome to our market: Frankie and Jenny.  I am really looking forward to meeting them and seeing what hand made good they bring to the market.  It’s always nice to know we are growing and more people are discovering us.  Let’s not stop here – do tell your friends about us, and maybe meet them here for a cheeky coffee, cake and a chat.

We welcome back Duncan, who’s bee hotels and bird feeders will be at the front of the hall, and young Shane, with his handmade bits and pieces, and of course Anne Marie will be available for massage from midday, and the multi-talented Bozena will be there for face-painting as well as selling her pretty precious stones jewellery.  I’m really looking forward to the September opportunity for catching up with market friends and visitors

Dear Friends,

A great treat for us to round off the summer season – Al Collingwood will be with us to play and sing.  He’s recently got a residency in the Covent Garden restaurant/bar     so we are very lucky to have him  with us, singing sets at 12:30 and 2:00– remember, he’ll take requests!

Hoping lots of you will be able to join us for this and for some of our regulars:  Artists Tamzyn, Yasmin,  and Kate, Sam & Friends and an artist new to us – introducing Funmi!.  Ruby, Yuri and Elise represent Textiles (though I’m hoping Elise brings some of her wonderful photographs as well) with Esther, Jane and Bozena with jewellery.  My pottery is always for sale, of course, and we have Suzanne’s Stationalry, aromatherapy and fragrances from Karen, Joanna’s Candles and Diffusers, Bee’s Skincare products and Maria’s gemstones.  Vintage will be well represented by Gillian, as well as John and Mike outside, and Sonia with the Shooters Hill Bird Sanctuary volunteers.  A new regular is Duncan, who’s bee hotels and bird feeders will be at the front of the hall.

If you are after an experience, try Andrew’s Watercolour class under the stage, get your (or your child’s) face painted by Bozena or enjoy a massage from Anne Marie.

Stock up on your honey from Joel and Elca and chilli products from Lanre.  Lucy is unavailable this month as she will be at her mother’s 90^th birthday, which is certainly something to celebrate!  However, she will be leaving us with a few savouries to ward off starvation.  Joining us for the first time with homemade cakes, biscuits and ice cream are Vanessa and Marion, otherwise known as Cousins and Crumbs.  I’m really looking forward to sampling their delicious looking treats.

We will be taking August off – We’re back in September, and looking forward to welcoming both regular and new stallholders as well as our visiting buyers and participators.  Have a great summer, everyone!

The month of May is the gateway to summer.  Jean Hersey

Dear Friends,

We are delighted to see the return of Tamzyn and Elise this month, they’ve been busy elsewhere, but are returning with Tamzyn’s stunning nature artwork and Elise’s beautiful crochet – and possibly some of her photography too.  It’s going to be a big day for Ceramics too, as both Fiona and Zara will be joining me – you all need a new mug, right?

Stock up on your honey and chilli products from Joel and Elca and Lanre, or get some of Lucy’s delicious food for a Saturday takeaway treat. 

Although the market has no official event in May, there is an adjacent event – a concert in the church!  Local Violinist Sarah Thornett has organised a series of concerts which are family friendly, so take the kids along and enjoy some glorious music.  Then pop in to us for one of Louise’s delicious cakes and a chat!  (Chat not obligatory…..)

Artists Barry and Yasmin feature in May, as well as Sally’s alternative photography, Textiles from Ruby and Patty, Stationary from Suzanne, aromatherapy and fragrances from Karen and our regular vintage selection from John and Sonia.  Both Jane and Maria (More than Violet) will be representing jewellery, and for a life affirming experience, try a massage from Anne-Marie, or have Bozena paint your child’s face!

It was wonderful to get back into the spring of things in March, and I have no doubt April will be just as successful.  The good news is that Louise will be back with her ridiculously delicious cakes.  Honestly, it’s worth going to the market just for one of these!  Obviously, if you are there, you might want to try out Joel and Elca’s honey, Lanre’s Chilli products, Philip’s coffee and some of Lucy’s savouries.

Our Event this month is Music from the inestimable Rob and Simon – they have played at a few markets now, and go down a treat!  (Incidently, Fiona’s workshop last month was a great success – I’ve seen the results and there are some lovely pieces.  She is planning another workshop with us in October (possibly with a Halloween theme.)

We have just one new stallholder this month:  Joanna Lawrence with her Candles and diffusers.  We look forward to welcoming her and hope she will become a regular stallholder.  Our local Councillor, Issy Cooke is showing how the market is really part of the community – she will be there ready to see if any residents want to raise any casework with her (and can move to a private space if appropriate).

Vintage goods will be well represented this month: our resident ‘Outside Man’ John Rastall will have his unique collection outside, with Cath and Joy’s eclectic household goods and Gilly’s textiles, as well as Susan’s candle cups inside.  Andrew will, as usual, be teaching Watercolours in his secret studio under the stage.

Other Stallholders include Esther and Ruth with their Jewellery, and Jean will have the wooden and leather goods her son makes, and our ‘fine artists’ are represented by Angie (Lino Prints), Edith (African inspired Art) and Gabby (all things Animal).  Claire will be there with her beautiful glass work, as will as Debra and Ruby (Crochet, knitting and textiles), Kate P with beautifully curated cards, Stephen with badges to support charity and Sonia working for the Friends of Eglinton Hill Bird Sanctuary  with her Tweetie Bird Clothing!  Oh, and me, of course, with ceramics.

Our regular Masseuse, Anne Marie, will be there from 12 and as usual, the fabulous Bozena will be there with facepainting for the little ones (and anyone who wants it, no age restrictions here) and if we’re lucky she’ll bring some of her paintings and jewellery too.

Dear Friends,

It seems like it’s been a very long winter, and I’m really looking forward to the March Market to reconnect with old friends.  Hopefully, Spring will be in the air – I’m certainly enjoying the daffs and the longer days

So, our special event at the March Market is a Pottery Workshop with Fiona  (Here is the link)  Her distinctive ceramics are found throughout the borough of Greenwich, celebrating our local landmarks – but how does she make them.  Discover a few of her secrets when creating a fully functional stoneware dish.  Of course, Andrew will also be teaching Watercolours in his secret studio under the stage.

Lucy will be doubling up on Cakes as well as her delicious savoury food, and in addition Luca will be bringing his focaccia, Lanre will keep the heat up with his chilli products, Elca and Joel will keep it sweet with their honey and bee products, and Philip will supply the much needed coffee.

Stallholders include Zara, as well as myself, with ceramics, and Esther and Jane, two makers who create utterly different, but equally beautiful Jewellery.  Jean will have the wooden and leather goods her son makes, and are ‘fine artists’ are represented by Rob (watercolours), Sally (photography) and Kate M and her posse.

I’m delighted to announce we have two Stallholders who are new to our market: Amanda Coggen, with crafted textiles and Candice Montano with her candles and diffusers.  We look forward to meeting them both.  There will be reflexology from Karen as well as massage from our regular Anne Marie (from 12)  Karen will also offer her aromatherapy fragrances, and her sister Suzanne will bring her beautiful stationary.

All usual, the fabulous Bozena will be there with facepainting for the little ones (and anyone who wants it, no age restrictions here) and if we’re lucky she’ll bring some of her paintings and jewellery too.  Bozena make all our social media posts, which is really quite something and we are all very grateful to her contributions!

Finally, Sonia, Plumstead Personality Supreme, is one of the people who have set up the Eglinton Hill Bird Sanctuary, and will be there to tell us all about it – just the sort of Community Project we all hope to get behind.  Sonia will make sure there is some space for her gorgeous pre-loved clothes too.

Ooh, let’s not forget our friends at the Plumstead Peculiars.  They have a concert on 22^nd March at the Ascension Church:  Masumi Yamahoto and the London Obligato Collective.  4pm, free admission. (Link to more details here)
